While Compact Fluorescent Lights may not be a "perfect" light source they do use 1/4 to 1/3 the electricity of an incandescent, while lasting longer and generating less heat. And they are available now at a reasonable price in nearly every store that sells "regular" light bulbs. Take a step towards living greener and smarter, replace your old light bulbs with CFL's.

CFL and ambiance

Compact fluorescents, certainly not an optimal solution are still better than incandescants in many implementations.

One big issue with many regular CFLs is that they're not dimmable to any reasonable extent. There are special dimming CFLs available - if you can find them.

You get on or off, but anything in-between either won't work, or will blow out your bulb.
