CFL and ambiance

Compact fluorescents, certainly not an optimal solution are still better than incandescants in many implementations.

One big issue with many regular CFLs is that they're not dimmable to any reasonable extent. There are special dimming CFLs available - if you can find them.

You get on or off, but anything in-between either won't work, or will blow out your bulb.
